What a TGIF Day ~ August 9, 2013

Why is it that Friday’s are always so special….the end of the week (when you are working) or could it be just another exciting day of retirement when you get together with friends?  Everyone can have a different answer.  This particular Friday was no exception for us to thoroughly enjoy awesome food – meaning pizza -and some “blues” on a beautiful day in Wisconsin.

The STONE BARN in Nelson WI was built in 1896 as part of the largest farm in what is now known as the “Norwegian Valley”, encompassing over 1000 acres.  The drive along the back roads of the Mississippi River brings you to this unique Stone Barn that is set in a valley surrounded by rolling hills.  The structure was restored in 1991 to create the unique setting for their artisan food as well as an antique store on site.  We understand that plenty of wedding receptions are held here also.

We met our friends, Janny & Bill, and chatted about our families while we waited for one of their “authentic” Italian pizzas baked in their wood-fired oven.  Janny was our insurance agent before she retired about 4 years ago.  We love her dearly – she is Kay’s shopping buddy for bargains when they go to Eau Claire!   Once the pizzas arrived we had no problems devouring the extra thin handmade crust.  The fire-roasted edge of the pizza was the best part.  Our favorite is Hawaiian (shown above). . .yummy!

My shopping buddy!

Next on the agenda for us was to check out the 6th Annual Blues on the Chippewa in Durand WI.  15 blues bands played tunes over 3 days to help benefit the Pepin County Food Pantry.

One of our favorites, the Lamont Cranston Band (based out of Minneapolis), really jammed up a storm as the music “in the Park” had people on their feet rocking with the tunes.

Back home for a glass of vino on the deck; Chuck & Abby wanted to relax with us too (but in the confines of the house).

Hugs to all. . .enjoy those fun filled days of summer while they last.
Kay & Jeff
Experimenting with self-timer.....smile, Jeff!!!!
